If you’ve just got engaged, congratulations! Your engagement season can be so full of joy and excitement, but sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. With Christmas around the corner, why not cosy up with your favourite Christmas drink and consider where to start with your wedding planning…
Pause and Celebrate!
Before doing any planning, take a moment to pause and celebrate your engagement! You have just said yes to marrying your best friend, let’s not skip over that by jumping into planning. Why not throw an engagement party, celebrate over a weekend away or simply pause to allow yourself to soak in every moment?
Set a Budget and an ideal timeline
Before visiting any venues or booking any suppliers, set a budget that works for you, and can be achievable within a realistic timeline. During this time, consider how long it will take you to save towards your ideal budget, what you think is a reasonable amount, and how long you want to spend wedding planning.
Book a Wedding Planner
This one might be biased, however, once you have determined your overall wedding budget, consider if you may be able to afford a planner. Planners are particularly helpful if you feel that you may not have the time to give towards planning your wedding in full, if you are excited about some aspects of wedding planning but overwhelmed by others, or simply that you feel you need some guidance in your planning. Typically, planners charge between 10% – 15% of your overall wedding budget, with a minimum fee, so do consider if this is something you’d find helpful.

Start Venue Searching
If you are opting not to hire a Wedding Planner, now is the time to start searching for your venue. January and February are prime time for Venue Open Days and Wedding Fayres, so why not enjoy this and book in show rounds and your favourites. Hitched is a particularly helpful search engine for venues (and most suppliers!)
